Recent evolutions in radiotherapy, such as Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), ion therapy or the recent developments on mini- and micro- X-ray beams at ESRF, tend towards higher conformation of the dose inside the tumors while sparing surrounding healthy tissues. This makes the online control of the delivered dose a crucial issue for the quality assurance.
Indeed, deviations from the planned dose are the consequence of a possible patient mispositioning, uncertainties in the patient morphology (e.g. anatomical evolution during the treatment) or in the stoichiometric calibration (conversion of X-ray CT numbers into tissue composition).

Targeting ion therapy and IMRT is the incentive of WP1, a challenging objective that also animates the FP7 ENVISION and ENTERVISION projects in which the IPNL, CREATIS, LIRIS and LPC-Clermont teams are strongly involved.

The targeted modalities are in-beam PET, prompt gamma imaging, proton vertex interaction imaging and the connected proton CT.
