Professional Integration

One of the LabEx objectives is to efficiently assist PhD students in precisely defining their professional objectives. Therefore, in collaboration with the university professional development office (BAIP, Bureau d’Aide à l’Insertion Professionnelle), the LabEx will support the organization of career planning workshops for all first-year students with required attendance in the second-year.
Following the specific requests of each PhD student, various optional courses/events will be available (including the possibility of attending national and international workshops and short-term courses), to gain further experience during their PhD training.

Since it is anticipated that many PhD graduates will pursue an industrial career, the LabEx will develop networking initiatives and maintain contacts with those in the private sector. Initiatives are already on-going to organize meetings between students, postdocs, employees, and representatives of private companies (organized by the BAIP and PhD student associations).
Based upon student motivation and career aspirations, a link will also be formed during specific PRIMES summer schools where PhD students and industrials will meet in Lyon.
The LabEx will ensure the long-term follow-up of the PhD students, generating a specific task for the Education representative in coordination with the doctoral schools. Fostering an “alumni” mentoring network for younger graduates is essential for the integration of each class of students, and may be partially achieved through social networks, such as LinkedIn.
